Web Services

A Web Service is no more or less than a well defined reusable interface to an application or data base which has very specific functionality. For example; a Web Service may provide an appraised value for home in a given area, if a specific set of data in the right format is sent to it. Typically the definition of the required input data and the expected output data is defined in a WSDL (web service definition language) document. Anyone with proper rights can request said WSDL document and access the corresponding output data as long as they request it in the exact format defined in the WSDL document. Often, numerous WSDL documents/files are stored in a UDDI (universal description directory index) for reference.
